Champagne
The Champagne region of France is famed around the world for its iconic sparkling wine. Located not too far from Paris, Champagne is at the Northern edge of the wine growing world.
Unlike the wine producers of Bordeaux, Champagne is at higher altitude and has an average annual temperature of 10 oC and average July temperature of 18oC which makes the grapes much harder to grow and ripen.
As a result, and to the good fortune of the Champagne region, the more acidic grapes are perfect for sparkling wine which was made popular by French kings and was quickly followed by other European monarchs, sealing Champagne’s image as an expensive product for the elite and special occasions.
