More About Piedmont

This often forgotten corner of Italy is one of our favourite destinations here at SmoothRed. Piedmont is perfect for a long weekend, or even a lengthier trip combined with other regions like Tuscany or Cinque Terre.

Piedmont Activities

One of the main attractions of Piedmont has to be just how untouched it feels. Indeed, while its rolling hills lined with vineyards definitely have a certain Tuscan feel about them, the whole region feels positively tranquil by comparison. The perfect environment for meandering among vines, sampling Barolos and exploring the region’s charming array of towns and villages.

The most well-known of these is the region’s capital, Turin, home to the Fiat car company, Juventus football club and, of course, the world’s most famous Shroud.

Elsewhere, the medieval city of Alba sits at the crossroads of the Langhe and Roero territories and is one of the gastronomic capitals of Italy. Nearby Canelli meanwhile is crammed with ancient churches and grand palazzo, and surrounded by hillside vineyards growing the Moscato grapes used to produce the region’s famous Asti Spumante wine.

And let’s not forget the town that gives its name to Piedmont’s most famous export, Barolo wines. Here you can marvel at the impressive castle that has been converted into a winery while sampling some of its wares.

Piedmont Wine Guide

Welcome to foodie (and winey) heaven

Piedmont produces more award-winning wines than any other Italian region, and it’s easy to see why. On your trip you’re sure to sample some scintillating Asti Spumantes and delicious Barolos. But be sure to leave room for other rich reds like Barbaresco and Barbera, and the refreshing and little-known white Arneis.

As well as all these venerable vintage wines, Piedmont is also home to the Slow Food Movement, not to mention being the white-truffle capital of the world. So you can be sure that wherever you stop off for lunch or dinner, be it in a charming village osteria or a chic restaurant, you’ll enjoy some of the finest cuisine Italy has to offer.

Let us plan your perfect Piedmont wine tour.

We’ve got all sorts of ready-made tours available, including full service and self-drive tours. And we’ll be happy to create a tailor-made wine trip just for you.

“Thanks for taking the time and trouble to call. You really have set the standard by which we compare all other companies!! Thank you so much for organising a fantastic itinerary with such an interesting and varied range of stop-overs. We are already starting to think about next year’s trip to France so would welcome any suggestions.”
