1st October 2014 - St Emilion
Early flight from London Gatwick to Bordeaux. Here you will be welcomed by your wine guide host- Chris Kissack the Winedoctor. You will then travel on a private coach for a lovely tasting lunch at one of the leading estates in St Emilion, Château Canon Gaffeliere - after lunch an exclusive visit at Chateau Angelus elevated to the rank of premier grand cru classé in the 2012 revision of the St Emilion classification. Our base for the three nights is in the centre of Bordeaux . A lovely 3 star hotel in the heart of the old town, or a luxurious 5 star option. Wind down with a wonderful dinner and accompanying wines in Bordeaux City.
2nd October 2014 - Graves and Sauternes
Today you will visit Château Haut-Brion. This is perhaps the grand-daddy of all Bordeaux estates, and surely the one with the most enviable history. The wines (white and red) are the grandest in all Pessac-Léognan, and in a poll of wine writers I am sure Haut-Brion would top the list of ‘desert-island’ wines. Following this visit and tasting, lunch is served in a wonderful restaurant overlooking the vineyards in Sauternes.
The second visit of the day is at t Château dYquem the world’s most famous sweet wine, the greatest, the most long-lived, the most expensive and undoubtedly the most coveted.
3rd October 2014 - The Medoc
Tour up the famous ‘Route des Chateau’ in the Medoc passing famous Grand Cru Estates, and stop for your first visit at Château Pontet-Canet now fully biodynamic, the first cru classé estate in Bordeaux to convert, and still (along with Château Climens in Barsac) the most significant biodynamic vineyard. No wonder this is now one of the most sought after wines in Pauillac, fetching prices to challenge famous names such as and Château Pichon-Lalande.
Following this visit and tasting, lunch is served in the wonderful setting of Château Pichon-Longueville, surely the most beautiful and striking of all the château on the Médoc. The afternoon will take you to Château Rauzan Segla, one of the most charming estates in the appellation of Margaux, this property has regularly produced one of the top wines of the appellation in recent years.
4th October 2014- Bordeaux and Graves
On you last day soak up the ambience of this city and see why Bordeaux is a designated UNESCO world heritage site. A stroll along one of Europes longest shopping esplanades is also a must, passing over 350 historical monuments along your way. For your last visit in Bordeaux, enjoy Château Haut-Bailly. An estate with no shortage of fans among the wine trade and wine journalists, is another property where quality has been pushed higher and higher. It is well known that Château Haut-Bailly was once regarded as an equal to Château Haut-Brion, and if the quality continues to climb maybe we will be saying this once again! Following this last visit, enjoy a fantastic wine tasting lunch at Haut-Bailly. End your Bordeaux Experience with private transfers to the airport and fly back to London early evening.
