As you arrive in the golden glow of the Côte d’Or region, prepare to have your breath taken away by your stunning accommodation. The former abbey has been transformed into a luxurious country house hotel, where you’ll be greeted with a relaxing wine reception before a five course dinner with accompanying wines in the hotel’s very own Michelin-star restaurant.
After breakfast you’ll be whisked off to the famed Côte de Nuits, driving through Vosne-Romanée and passing Chateau du Clos du Vougeot. Enjoy an exceptional tasting at an estate in Gevry Chambertin including a traditional three course Burgundian lunch with eight wines. Save a little room for the final afternoon tasting of three exceptional Grand Cru wines at another estate.
The following day Beaune beckons. You will be chauffeured with private transfers to a charming 5* star hotel just a cork’s throw from the heart of town, so you can amble along to your afternoon tasting in a local cellar. This is at one of the region’s most respected estates and includes a tasting of six of it’s finest drops. That evening, discover your pick of local eateries.
This morning starts with a with a private tour of the Hospices of Beaune, a former hospital founded in 1443, which is world famous for it’s quirky Flemish influenced architecture. Enjoy a fantastic tour at a wine estate. Here you’ll learn all about the local terroir, grape varieties and processes that go into making these famed and formidable wines. With your appetite well and truly stoked, it’s time for a grand tasting lunch, where you’ll get the chance to sample a selection of at least nine of the region’s finest wines, including Aligoté, Chassagne, Puligny-Montrachet, Meursault, Pernand-Vergelesses, Rully, Les Sétilles, Saint-Aubin, Volnay and Pommard. In the afternoon, enjoy a further visit and tasting at a small family winery.
After breakfast there’s just time to explore Beaune’s market, labyrinthine backstreets and alleyways, before bidding farewell to the capital of Burgundy wines.
